CHAN 2024: Morocco Expects Tough Fixture Against DR Congo, Says Head Coach


Nairobi: ‘We can consider this match as a final. It’s very important for us and for DR Congo,’ Sektioui told a pre-match press conference, stressing that ‘we are fully aware of the stakes, determined and motivated to win.’

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Sektioui emphasized the significance of the upcoming game against DR Congo, noting, ‘Winning this match is crucial and will carry us to the next round.’ He acknowledged that DR Congo has quick players in transition and stated that Morocco will organize and build their play based on their opponent’s strengths.

Sektioui remarked that in such competitions, there are no weak or strong teams, emphasizing that the difference lies in what happens on the field and the mental and physical preparation. He pointed out that each game has its own scenario, and the team must pay attention to the small details that can change everything.

Acknowledging DR Congo’s past successes, Sektioui noted, ‘DR Congo has won the CHAN twice, and that’s all the more reason for
us to play good football to control the game.’

Moroccan player Mohamed Moufid shared the team’s positive mindset ahead of the match, affirming that the squad is aware of the need to secure victory. He noted, ‘We will be playing against an aggressive and compact team, but we have prepared well for this duel to be as efficient as possible,’ emphasizing their approach to each match as a final.

Morocco’s local national team is set to face DR Congo on Sunday at Nairobi’s Nyayo Stadium.
