The choice of Marrakech as the capital of culture in the Islamic world for the year 2024 offers an opportunity to highlight the Kingdom’s culture, heritage and authenticity, stressed, on Friday in Marrakech, Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid.
“The choice of Marrakech as the capital of culture in the Islamic world is an opportunity to showcase our culture, our heritage, our authenticity and our originality as part of a permanent openness to the contemporary world,” noted Bensaid at a press conference to mark the launch of celebrations for the event “Marrakech, Capital of Culture in the Islamic World”, in the presence of Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), Salem ben Mohamed El Malik.
While expressing his thanks to ICESCO for this choice, he said that the program of this celebration, which will extend throughout the year, includes the organization of cultural, heritage, artistic and intellectual activities in coord
ination with Marrakech’s cultural civil society, stressing that the success of this cultural year depends on the involvement of local intellectuals and artists.
In this context, he stressed that these activities will further enshrine the cultural role played by the city of Marrakech, both nationally and internationally.
Bensaid also underlined this event is meant to make these activities an annual tradition, in the image of the city of Rabat, chosen as the capital of culture in the Islamic world for the year 2022, calling on the local population and visitors to the city to flock to the shows presented as part of these activities.
