Copenhagen: Denmark has expressed support for the Moroccan autonomy plan as a constructive framework for resolving the Moroccan Sahara issue. This endorsement was articulated by Denmark’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Lars L¸kke Rasmussen, during a press briefing on Friday. The announcement coincided with the visit of Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, to Copenhagen.

According to African Press Organization, Rasmussen stated that “Denmark lauds, in line with the European Union’s position, the adoption of UNSC Resolution 2797.” He emphasized the significance of the Moroccan autonomy proposal, describing it as “credible” and acknowledging its contribution to the UN’s efforts to resolve the Sahara conflict. He highlighted that the plan provides a “good basis for a mutually agreed solution by all parties.”

Denmark’s stance aligns with the international momentum, spearheaded by King Mohammed VI, to reinforce Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara region and support the Moroccan autonomy initiative. As a member of the United Nations Security Council, Denmark’s endorsement further solidifies the international community’s support for Morocco’s position on this critical issue.
