RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh today stressed during his meeting with the German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze, at his office in Ramallah for supporting a cessation of the Israeli war on Gaza, not encouraging it.

‘Wisdom calls for supporting a halt to the war, not encouraging its continuation,’ said the Prime Minister, stressing that the priority now is to immediately stop the Israeli occupation’s aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem, and bringing into Gaza relief and medical aid and restore electricity and water.

“The aggression against the Gaza Strip and the massive destruction, and talk of reoccupying the Gaza Strip or cutting off parts of it and establishing buffer zones, is part of the occupation government’s ongoing strategy towards destroying any opportunity to materialize the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” Shtayyeh told his guest in the meeting attended by the Ge
rman Representative to Palestine, Oliver Owcza.

He called on Germany to recognize the State of Palestine at the bilateral level, in addition to supporting the recognition of Palestine as a full member state in the United Nations.

Shtayyeh welcomed Germany’s resumption of cooperation programs in the field of development and humanitarian support in the Palestinian territories, which contributes to alleviating the suffering of the people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and laying the foundations for the Palestinian state within the framework of the two-state solution.
