Ecuador Endorses Moroccan Autonomy Plan as Solution to Sahara Dispute

New York:Ecuador has expressed its support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as the sole viable solution to resolving the ongoing regional dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the announcement was made by Ecuador’s representative during a session of the United Nations’ Fourth Committee. The representative emphasized that the Moroccan proposal aligns with the objectives of UN Security Council resolution 2797, describing it as the “only serious, credible and realistic” approach for achieving a lasting resolution.

Ecuador further highlighted its commitment to the political process conducted under the guidance of the United Nations, including the efforts of the Secretary General and his Personal Envoy. The aim is to reach a definitive political agreement on this matter.

The representative also urged all involved parties to engage in negotiations facilitated by the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy. These talks should be based on Morocco’s initiative and conducted in good faith without preconditions, to find a “definitive and mutually acceptable” solution to the dispute.
