Egypt Advances to AFCON 2025 Quarter-Finals After Overtime Victory Over Benin


Agadir: The Egyptian national football team secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 by defeating Benin 3-1 after extra time. The Round of 16 match took place on Monday at the Grand Stadium of Agadir.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the match saw Egypt initially take the lead through Marwan Attia, who scored in the 69th minute. Benin managed to equalize with a goal from Jodel Dossou in the 83rd minute, which pushed the game into extra time.



During the extra time period, Yasser Ibrahim scored in the 97th minute to put Egypt ahead once again. Mohamed Salah then solidified the win with a goal in the stoppage time of extra time (120+4).



Egypt is now set to face the winner of the C´te d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso match, which is scheduled for Tuesday at the Grand Stadium of Marrakech, in the quarter-finals.
