Marrakech: Egyptian actor Hussein Fahmy expressed his heartfelt gratitude to His Majesty the King during a tribute at the Marrakech International Film Festival. Fahmy, a leading figure in Arab cinema, also conveyed his appreciation to His Royal Highness Prince Moulay Rachid, President of the Festival Foundation. He acknowledged the festival’s significant success and its status as a key event on the global film scene.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the ceremony saw Fahmy receive the Festival’s Etoile d’Or, an honor that delighted him. He expressed his joy at receiving the tribute in Marrakech, where he filmed one of his earliest movies, “My Blood, My Tears, My Smile,” in the early 1970s. The Etoile d’Or was presented by Yousra, a fellow Egyptian and Arab cinema diva, who also thanked King Mohammed VI and Prince Moulay Rachid.
Yousra praised Fahmy’s illustrious career, which spans over five decades. She highlighted his artistic talent and excellence, which have propelled Arab cinema onto the world stage. Fahmy’s filmography includes notable works such as “The Enemy Brothers,” “The Bullet Is Still in My Pocket,” “Attention Gentlemen!,” “Amira.. My Love,” “Night and Desire,” “A Night When the Moon Cried,” “Monsters Run,” and “Playing with the Big Boys.”
Fahmy’s contributions to the arts and culture have earned him a prominent status, including his role as president of the Cairo International Film Festival.
