Tangier:Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the detention of a person carrying a bag containing ballots, as announced by the King’s Prosecutor General at the Tangier Court of Appeal.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the arrests follow a statement issued on September 23 regarding the opening of a probe into the incident. The preliminary investigations led to the detention of the five suspects, who have been placed in police custody. Among those arrested are the heads of two polling stations, their deputies, and another individual. Four of these suspects were presented before the Public Prosecutor’s Office on Saturday, while the investigation continues with the fifth suspect still in custody.

Preliminary inquiries revealed that the individual initially arrested with the ballots was a deputy head of a polling station. This suspect, with the complicity of the station head, removed ballots, concealed them, and later reintroduced them into two polling stations with the aid of others inv
olved. The investigation also noted a discrepancy in the ink used on the seized ballots compared to those used in the polling stations.

Based on the findings of the judicial investigations, the Public Prosecutor’s Office has referred the case to an investigating judge to open a formal inquiry into the alleged crimes of electoral tampering, forgery, and complicity. The office is committed to closely monitoring the case to ensure strict legal compliance.
