Rabat: Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, received on Tuesday in Rabat, the Gambia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Gambians Abroad, Mamadou Tangara. Tangara was the bearer of a written message to His Majesty King Mohammed VI from the President of the Gambia, Adama Barrow.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Tangara emphasized the significance of ongoing consultations between Morocco and the Gambia on mutual interests, particularly within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). The Gambia currently holds the rotating presidency of the OIC.

The Gambian minister praised the dedication of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, who is also the Chairman of the al-Quds Committee, in advancing bilateral relations. Tangara also pointed out Morocco’s significant diplomatic advancements, recently underscored by the United Kingdom’s decision to back the Moroccan autonomy plan for the southern provinces. This plan is viewed as a “realistic and lasting solution” to the ongoing dispute over the Moroccan Sahara.

In this context, Tangara reaffirmed the Gambia’s “unambiguous” support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, highlighting the strong bilateral ties and mutual interests shared by both nations.
