Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, took part in the meeting of foreign ministers of the Arab Summit Troika and foreign ministers of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) member states, held today at the UN headquarters in New York, on the sidelines of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA 78).

The meeting was chaired by Igli Hasani, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania.

This meeting was held in the presence of the foreign ministers of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the current president of the Arab Summit, the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria, the previous president of the Arab Summit, the Kingdom of Bahrain, the next president of the Arab Summit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and representatives of Arab and European countries.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs expressed his appreciation for holding this meeting, which would provide opportunities for cooperation between the UN Security Council and the League of Arab States to achieve common goals and UN purposes.

He underscored that the Middle East is currently witnessing renewed efforts by regional players and international partners to achieve peace, stability and prosperity, adding that the UNSC member states are required to take advantage of the available opportunities given the changes in the region, including working together to ensure the full implementation of the UNSC resolutions, and provide greater support for UN envoys’ efforts.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs stressed that UNSC member states and Arab countries are required to unite their efforts in coordination with regional and international partners to confront the challenges facing the Middle East.

Areas of cooperation and joint coordination between the UN Security Council and Arab countries regarding the political, security, economic and development issues and challenges facing the Arab world were reviewed. They also discussed and exchanged views regarding the resolutions issued by the UN Security Council on Arab issues, and the political tasks assigned to the United Nations’ envoys tasked with following up on files related to conflicts and crises in the Arab arena, and conflicts that affect security, stability and peace in the region.

The meeting further discussed prominent issues, including the Palestinian issue, the ongoing conflicts in the region, the development challenges facing its countries, and ways to address regional situations and conflicts.

The meeting was attended by the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Nations in New York, Ambassador Jamal Fares Al-Ruwaie, and the delegation accompanying the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
