Foreign Minister takes part in 157th GCC Ministerial Council meeting

Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani, Foreign Affairs Minister, today participated in the 157th meeting of the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).

The meeting was chaired by Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Albusaidi, Oman’s Foreign Affairs Minister and chairman of the ministerial council’s current session, in the presence of GCC countries’ foreign ministers and Jasem Mohamed Al-Budaiwi, GCC Secretary-General.

The ministers reviewed topics on the meeting’s agenda, including the follow-up on the implementation of the resolutions of the GCC Supreme Council and the Ministerial Council, in addition to the reports prepared by the specialised committees at the GCC Secretariat-General pertaining to ways to enhance the joint GCC action.

The GCC Ministerial Council also discussed the progress of the free trade negotiations between the GCC and a number of countries and economic blocs.

The GCC foreign ministers also discussed the topics on the agendas of the upcoming joint ministerial meetings with their counterparts in several friendly countries.

The meeting also focused on coordinating GCC countries’ stances during high-level forums and strategic dialogues to be held between GCC states and friendly countries during the 78th session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The ministers also discussed the latest regional and global developments of common interest, as well as ways to coordinate GCC countries’ stances vis-à-vis them at international gatherings.
