Former Belgian Ambassador to Morocco Honored with Prestigious Alawite Wissam


Brussels: Belgium’s former Ambassador to Morocco, V©ronique Petit, has been decorated with the Alawite wissam of commander rank, in recognition of her efforts in bolstering bilateral ties and the bonds of friendship between Morocco and Belgium. This High Royal distinction was presented to Petit by Morocco’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Belgium and the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Mohamed Ameur, during a ceremony held on Tuesday evening at the Kingdom’s residence in Brussels.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ameur stated that this High Royal distinction is “a great recognition of the remarkable efforts made by Petit throughout her diplomatic mission in Rabat, from 2021 to 2024, in strengthening bilateral relations and the bonds of friendship between Morocco and Belgium in the political, economic, and cultural fields.” He emphasized that Petit’s tenure was marked by “innovative initiatives and fruitful cooperation” in key areas such as justice, security, trade, investment, culture, environment, academic exchanges, and development cooperation.



Ameur also highlighted the promising prospects for relations between the two kingdoms, attributing this to their strategic partnership in various fields, including economy, investments, sustainable development, and the environment. He stressed the importance of the human dimension in this partnership, considering the presence of the Belgian community in Morocco and the Moroccan community in Belgium, and called for further exchanges and cooperation between the two nations.



For her part, Petit expressed her deep gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI for the High distinction, stating that she was “extremely honored” to have contributed to the strengthening of close ties between Morocco and Belgium. She noted that the partnership between the two countries had reached a new stage with the Moroccan-Belgian High Joint Partnership Commission in April 2024, showcasing both parties’ determination to enhance their cooperation, particularly in economic and commercial sectors. Petit highlighted the significance of human ties as a crucial element of bilateral relations.
