France 24 Calls Morocco ‘Host Country’ for African, International Football

Rabat: The international channel noted that in recent years, the Kingdom has hosted the African Nations Championship in 2018, the Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, and the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations this year-where the Moroccan team reached the final-as well as the Women’s U-17 World Cup.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, France 24 views the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN) football tournament in Morocco as a “rehearsal for the 2030 World Cup,” which will reveal the Kingdom’s capacity to host events of continental and global scale. “We know the enormous efforts and investments made by Morocco to deliver quality infrastructure, to renew and expand it,” emphasized sports consultant Jean-Baptiste Gu©gan, quoted in the analysis.

He added that if everything goes smoothly during and after the competition, the CAN should allow Morocco to “showcase the excellence of Moroccan hospitality.” On the sporting front, France 24 remarked that “on the field, Morocco knows it is expected to perform,” with the hope of seeing the national team “win a second CAN and remain ambitious for the World Cup.” This anticipation is heightened because “after gaining international recognition at the 2022 World Cup by reaching the semi-finals, the Atlas Lions will be playing in front of their home crowd nearly 50 years after winning the sole CAN in their history.”

If Morocco wins this CAN, it will clearly establish a strong position in African football, concluded expert Jean-Baptiste Gu©gan.
