France’s Endorsement of Morocco’s Sahara Sovereignty Affirmed by French Senate Speaker

Rabat: France’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara is “unquestionable,” French Senate Speaker G©rard Larcher stated during his visit to Rabat. Larcher praised Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as a viable framework for the present and future development of the region within the Kingdom.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Larcher’s comments came after discussions with Khalihenna Ould Errachid, Chairman of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS). Larcher emphasized France’s deep understanding of the region, which he believes grants France a unique responsibility and credibility in explaining the situation internationally. He clarified that this stance is not merely a governmental position but a reflection of France’s overall policy.

The meeting also allowed for an evaluation of the current conditions in Morocco’s Southern provinces and a review of the opportunities presented by the proposed Autonomy Plan. Larcher, joined by a high-level delegation, including Christian Cambon, Chairman of the Morocco-France Friendship Group, C©dric Perrin, President of the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces, and French Ambassador to Rabat Christophe Lecourtier, is scheduled to visit Laayoune in the Moroccan Sahara as part of their trip.
