Morocco’s Govt. Head Receives French Senate Speaker in Rabat

Rabat: Morocco’s Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch received Speaker of the Senate of the French Republic G©rard Larcher, who is currently on a working visit to Morocco, in Rabat on Monday.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the meeting, attended by Minister Delegate in charge of Relations with Parliament Mustapha Baitas, was an opportunity to salute France’s position in support of the Moroccan Sahara. This position was reiterated during the State visit to the Kingdom in October 2024 by President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, at the invitation of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. This meeting laid the foundations for upgrading the partnership between the two countries to the level of a “reinforced exceptional partnership,” as noted in a press release from the office of the Head of Government.

Akhannouch affirmed that this new momentum in the partnership between Morocco and France, spearheaded by the two Heads of State, has given decisive impetus to the multidimensional relations between the two countries. This has been achieved through the mobilization of various sectors to promote cooperation at bilateral, regional, and international levels, the same source emphasizes.

The working visit by the French Senate Speaker to the Kingdom will help bolster cooperation between legislative institutions in the two countries and consolidate the ties of friendship and cooperation between the Kingdom of Morocco and the French Republic, the press release notes.

The visit, which will take Larcher to the city of Laayoune, will present him with the development projects and programs initiated in the Kingdom’s Southern Provinces, under the Enlightened Leadership of His Majesty the King, the same source adds.

The meeting was attended by Chairman of the Morocco-France Friendship Group Christian Cambon, the Group’s Vice-Chairmen Herv© Marseille and Corinne Feret, President of the Senate’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Armed Forces C©dric Perrin, and French Ambassador to Rabat Christophe Lecourtier.
