Moroccan-French Partnership Reaches New Heights with Leadership Commitment

Rabat: The Moroccan-French partnership is gaining unprecedented momentum, driven by the shared commitment of the two Heads of State, His Majesty King Mohammed VI and President Emmanuel Macron, said Mohamed Ould Errachid, Speaker of the House of Councilors, on Monday in Rabat.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, during a joint press briefing with the Speaker of the French Senate G©rard Larcher, Ould Errachid highlighted Larcher’s official visit to Morocco as a testament to the unwavering and renewed commitment to deepening the strong and dynamic ties between the House of Councilors and the French Senate, marked by regular and constructive dialogue.

The Speaker of the House of Councilors noted that both parties underlined the crucial role of parliamentary diplomacy as a cornerstone in sustaining this momentum and strengthening the foundation of mutual development in service of the higher interests of both nations.

Discussions emphasized the necessity of establishing a comprehensive framework for bilateral parliamentary cooperation. This includes enhanced consultation and coordination on shared priorities, increased exchanges of official visits, joint parliamentary events, collaboration in international parliamentary forums, and the exchange of experiences and expertise in all areas of legislative action.

Ould Errachid also stressed the importance of reinvigorating parliamentary friendship groups within both institutions and strengthening the Moroccan-French Parliamentary Forum, which serves as a key platform for dialogue and coordinated efforts across political and parliamentary spheres.

He also noted that the meeting provided an opportunity to showcase Morocco’s reform initiatives under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. The discussions also highlighted the Kingdom’s development trajectory, underpinned by an institutional and constitutional framework, democratic life, and citizen participation.

Addressing the issue of Morocco’s territorial integrity, Ould Errachid reaffirmed that both parties reiterated their appreciation of France’s historical stance, which recognizes that the past, present, and future of the Sahara lie within Moroccan sovereignty.

This position aligns with the growing international endorsement of Morocco’s autonomy initiative as the sole solution to resolving the conflict over the Moroccan Sahara. The initiative continues to garner support from the international community, which acknowledges Morocco’s strategic vision, under the guidance of His Majesty the King, for the region’s future.

The Speaker of the French Senate is leading an official delegation to Morocco, with engagements scheduled with the Head of Government, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Abroad. The visit also includes a trip to Laayoune in the Moroccan Sahara.
