Rabat: A ceremony was held on Thursday at the headquarters of the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) in Rabat, marking the 70th anniversary of their establishment. Chaired by Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid, FAR Inspector General and Commander of the South Zone, the event featured the raising of the national colors and the reading of the Order of the Day from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of FAR, directed to officers, non-commissioned officers, and privates.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the Sovereign emphasized the significance of the 70th anniversary of the FAR as a pivotal moment in the nation’s history, highlighting the evolution of the national institution and its ongoing sacrifices to maintain Morocco’s safety and territorial integrity. His Majesty praised the achievements of the forces and stressed the importance of adapting to global changes to further develop the Armed Forces.
The King acknowledged the Royal Armed Forces’ crucial role in securing the country’s borders and their active involvement in rescue and relief operations as per his instructions. He commended the collective humanitarian efforts that involved units from the Royal Armed Forces, Royal Gendarmerie, National Security Agency, Auxiliary Forces, and Civil Protection in response to floods, ensuring the safety and support of affected populations.
His Majesty also recognized the commendable work of medical and paramedical teams in military field hospitals and logistics units deployed to remote areas to alleviate the impact of adverse weather conditions. The King highlighted the positive effect of military service in fostering citizenship and solidarity among Moroccan youth, and underlined the modernization of training methods to align with current professional demands.
During the ceremony, various officers, non-commissioned officers, and privates were honored with Wissams awarded by His Majesty. The event also featured a military parade involving detachments from the Headquarters Battalion under the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces.
This anniversary underscores the FAR’s achievements since its inception in 1956 by the late King Mohammed V, showcasing its commitment to operational excellence, strategic innovation, and modernization under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI. Beyond defending national security and stability, the FAR continues to play a vital humanitarian role during natural disasters and exceptional circumstances.
