Morocco Estimates Livestock Supply at 8 to 9 Mln Heads, Exceeding Demand for Eid Al Adha

Morocco: Morocco’s national supply of sheep and goats for Eid al-Adha 1447 AH is estimated at between 8 and 9 million head, exceeding a demand estimated at between 6 and 7 million head, the Ministry of Agriculture, Marine Fisheries, Rural Development, and Water and Forests stated on Thursday.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, “The Royal Program for the replenishment of the national livestock population, combined with improved weather conditions and fall and spring births, has helped restore the balance of the national livestock population, which currently stands at nearly 40 million head,” the ministry said in a press release, noting that 160,000 farms raising and fattening sheep and goats for Eid have been identified nationwide.

This operation is part of the traceability monitoring of livestock intended for slaughter and serves as an essential tool for monitoring the health status of the national livestock population.
