AMMAN: Jordan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates today welcomed the International Court of Justice (ICJ’s) landmark order in the proceedings brought by the Republic of South Africa against Israel, according to Jordan’s Petra News Agency.

The Ministry’s spokesperson, Ambassador Sufyan Qudah, emphasized the significance of the Court’s decision that establishes prima facie jurisdiction over the case and orders provisional measures, which if implemented would lead to stopping Israel’s crimes of killing the Palestinians, causing them serious physical and mental harm, and subjecting them to living conditions intended to physically destroy them, as well as ordering Israel allow the provision of urgent humanitarian assistance, said Petra.

He emphasized the urgency of implementing such measures and taking immediate action to put an end to the killing of innocent people in Gaza and the destruction of facilities that are necessary for their survival, said the agency.

Qudah also emphasized Jordan’s gratitud
e for South Africa’s efforts and its support for the application it filed before the Court.

He reiterated that the international community must act to stop Israel’s aggression against Gaza and the Palestinians and the ensuing humanitarian catastrophe; adding that such Israeli actions are considered flagrant violations of international law and international humanitarian law and an affront to all moral, legal, and humanitarian boundaries, added Petra.
