Rabat: His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, has graciously ordered the opening at the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan of mosques built, rebuilt or restored by the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs or by benefactors, totaling 157 mosques.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the ministry specified that this concerns 95 newly built mosques, 42 rebuilt mosques, 8 historic mosques, and 11 restored mosques. The overall capacity of all these mosques is 160,000 worshipers, at a total cost of MAD 647.3 million.
The Sovereign issued His High Approval for the opening of the “Mohammed VI Mosque” and its annexes in the Chadian capital Ndjamena. His Majesty the King also graciously bestowed His name upon the Hay Salam Grand Mosque in Agadir. The mosque holds a capacity of 3,600 worshipers and cost MAD 62.5 million to build.
