Rabat: “We now have a real opportunity, given the work that has been done and thanks to the leadership of His Majesty the King, to move forward and resolve this dispute,” Fischer told MAP following the adoption by the United Nations Security Council of Resolution 2797 on the Moroccan Sahara.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, “Thanks to His Majesty the King’s efforts, the whole of Morocco is moving forward,” the former U.S. ambassador added.
Referring to Security Council Resolution 2797, Fischer said that its adoption marks “a great day for the United Nations,” in that this resolution, championed by the United States, will enable constructive dialogue toward a definitive resolution of the artificial conflict over the Moroccan Sahara.
This resolution, Fischer continued, represents a clear mandate to move forward, based on the U.S. position recognizing Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara.
