ICAO-GISS 2026: Morocco Strongly Committed to Civil Aviation Growth Momentum – Minister

Marrakech: Morocco is strongly committed to keeping pace with the sustained growth of the civil aviation sector, Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh said Tuesday in Marrakech.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, speaking at the opening of the 5th ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium (GISS 2026), Kayouh highlighted Morocco’s efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to strengthen international and regional air connectivity, thereby consolidating its position as a leading regional and continental hub.

He reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to advancing air navigation in line with the strategic vision of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), stressing the importance of international cooperation and expertise-sharing to ensure a sustainable and future-ready aviation system.

Kayouh also underscored Morocco’s integrated approach based on digitization and modernization of airport systems, notably through the adoption of advanced technologies such as Advance Passenger Information (API) and Passenger Name Record (PNR), aimed at improving passenger data processing, risk analysis, and control procedures.

He further noted that Morocco has achieved an 87% compliance rate under ICAO’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme (USOAP), reflecting the effectiveness of the Kingdom’s regulatory framework and governance model in the area.

The minister also highlighted the importance of ecological transition, pointing to Morocco’s investments in renewable energy and green hydrogen projects within the framework of strategic international partnerships.

Held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, ICAO-GISS 2026 is organized in Marrakech on April 14-16 by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, in partnership with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), under the theme “Regional Solutions, Global Benefits.”
