Judicial Officials in Fez Receive Training on AI and Human Rights

Fez:A training session is being held in Fez on Monday and Tuesday to educate judicial officials from public prosecution offices about the intersection of artificial intelligence and human rights. This event is organized by the Presidency of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in partnership with the Geneva Centre for Security Sector Governance (DCAF).

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the session is part of an ongoing program aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Public Prosecution judges in human rights, which began in 2020. It is also aligned with the 2026-2028 strategic plan’s focus on strengthening the protection of rights and freedoms.

The training addresses how AI can be used in combating crime while upholding human rights standards. Organizers emphasize the importance of ensuring AI technologies comply with international human rights standards and the Rule of Law, as their use by legal and criminal justice institutions grows. Guidelines for this compliance include UNESCO’s 2021 Recommendations on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence and the OECD’s 2019 Principles on AI, among others.

The goal of the session is to enhance the knowledge and skills of judicial officials regarding AI’s potential in crime prevention. The training promotes a human rights-based approach, focusing on transparency and accountability. It employs a practical interactive method, sharing international expertise and best practices in the field.

Key topics include the protection of personal data, privacy rights, and the safeguarding of individuals’ physical integrity. The session also emphasizes procedural safeguards, human supervision, and mechanisms for ensuring responsibility and accountability.
