King Mohammed VI Outlines New Migration Strategy With Europe

Accra:French geopolitical expert Jérôme Besnard has highlighted the significant shift in Morocco’s approach to migration cooperation with European partners, as outlined in a recent speech by King Mohammed VI. The King emphasized Morocco’s new proactive role in presenting proposals to address migration issues, countering the traditional model where European countries initiated solutions.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, The King’s speech acknowledged the outdated nature of the current cooperation model and addressed the ongoing challenges, including crises, political and media exploitation, and issues like the repatriation of unaccompanied minors. Morocco’s new strategy aims to offer a clear and practical vision for collaboration, thus redefining North-South relations.

Besnard, a law professor at Paris Cité University, noted that the Kingdom’s aim is not just to criticize the existing system but to actively contribute to developing solutions focusing on co-development, economic competitiveness, and regional stability. This strategic shift reflects Morocco’s desire to engage as an equal partner and to establish cooperation policies based on reciprocity and shared responsibility, moving away from superficial political debates.
