Laayoune: The region of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra is experiencing an unprecedented development dynamic, driven by the Vision of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, stated the President of the Regional Council of Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, Sidi Hamdi Ould Errachid.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this momentum is supported by the implementation of the New Development Model for the Southern Provinces, launched in 2015 by the Sovereign in Laayoune. The model aims to enhance investment attractiveness, wealth creation, and employment opportunities, with a focus on human development.
Ould Errachid noted that the volume of investments for the projects under this model amounts to around 47 billion dirhams (MAD) for the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region, with the Regional Council contributing 3 billion MAD. This contribution has helped improve the region’s economic appeal and the population’s quality of life.
The region acts as a regional hub connecting the Kingdom to Africa, Europe, and the Americas, due to its strategic position and potential, enabling integrated and sustainable development.
He stated that large-scale projects and infrastructure initiatives have transformed the region, which now offers a competitive territorial offer, significant infrastructure, and qualified human capital.
Furthermore, the Regional Council adopted the 2022-2027 Regional Development Program with a budget of 2.77 billion MAD. This program is structured around upgrading ports, promoting investment, creating job opportunities, and fostering socio-economic development.
He also highlighted that the Southern Provinces benefit from security and stability, essential for attracting investments and promoting South-South cooperation, in line with the Solicitude of HM King Mohammed VI.
Additionally, the Regional President mentioned that the Council has established partnerships with several African regions to strengthen decentralized cooperation and exchange expertise in local governance.
