Lower House Speaker Outlines Morocco’s Initiatives in Africa Under Royal Leadership

Lyon: The Lower House Speaker, Rachid Talbi El Alami, who represented HM King Mohammed VI at the One Health Summit held Tuesday in Lyon, highlighted the concrete initiatives undertaken by Morocco to improve health conditions and promote a healthy environment in Africa.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Morocco has made a clear choice: action for health, for the climate, for sustainable agriculture-action for Africa. Talbi El Alami emphasized in his speech during the 9th session of the ‘One Planet’ Summit, focused on the theme “One Health.”

Noting that this commitment is reflected in tangible initiatives, particularly the ‘Triple A’ Initiative for the Adaptation of African Agriculture to Climate Change launched by His Majesty the King, Talbi El Alami stated that when the Ebola epidemic struck certain African countries, Morocco demonstrated responsibility and solidarity by maintaining its air connections.

He also cited the substantial aid provided by the Kingdom to African countries, in accordance with the High Royal Instructions, to address the Covid-19 crisis. “We must share our knowledge, strengthen our capacities, facilitate technology transfer, and invest together,” he insisted.

The One Health Summit brings together, for the first time, heads of state and government from around the world, representatives of relevant international and regional organizations, parliamentarians, scientists, private sector representatives, civil society, local authorities, development banks, and youth, with the aim of accelerating the implementation of the ‘One Health’ approach, which recognizes the interdependence between human, animal, and environmental health.

Organized at the initiative and under the presidency of French President Emmanuel Macron, the summit aims to strengthen monitoring and prevention systems and to engage all stakeholders, public and private, ready to invest in concrete actions. It also seeks to rethink the global institutional framework for health, making the One Health approach a guiding principle for the development of public policies.
