Mauritanian Politician Supports Dialogue Initiative with Algeria


Nouakchott: Mauritanian politician Ould Oubeid has expressed his strong support for HM the King’s recent call for dialogue with Algeria, emphasizing the importance of resolving the Sahara issue. In a statement to MAP, Ould Oubeid highlighted the King’s commitment to a solution that respects all parties involved, ensuring that there are no perceived winners or losers in the process.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Ould Oubeid pointed out the significance of the UN Security Council resolution concerning the Moroccan Sahara. He noted that the resolution is vital for the progress of the Arab Maghreb Union, as it provides a pathway to revitalizing the regional bloc. The resolution is seen as a pivotal element in moving towards a resolution of the ongoing Sahara conflict, which has persisted for five decades.



Ould Oubeid further elaborated on the potential benefits of a final settlement of the Moroccan Sahara conflict, suggesting that it would enable the Maghreb Union to become a major economic and social force. He reiterated that the UN resolution confirmed the Moroccan autonomy plan as the foundation for resolving the conflict, and urged the political class and Maghrebian elite to actively participate in fostering stronger brotherly ties among the nations involved.
