Manama, The Mohammed Bin Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa Specialist Cardiac Centre (MKCC) has acquired and installed the latest photon-counting computed tomography (NAEOTOM Alpha PCCT) scanner.

This advanced technology in computed tomography is the first of its kind in the Middle East, placing Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) military hospitals at the forefront of modern medical facilities regionally and internationally.

Brigadier General Dr. Shaikh Fahad bin Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, Commander of the Royal Medical Services, stated that this scanner offers unparalleled diagnostic accuracy with the lowest possible radiation and dye levels. It enables non-invasive diagnostics of heart disease without requiring a catheter.

He also highlighted that the scanner can detect and monitor coronary artery disease and image congenital heart diseases in both adults and children. It can image calcified arteries and stented vessels without surgery, enhancing patient safety and reducing the need for catheterisation lab reso
urces.

Additionally, the PCCT scanner can detect cerebral blood vessel stenosis and assess brain stent integrity, providing accurate diagnoses of brain blood vessels.

Major General Fuad Abdulqader Saeed, CEO of MKCC, emphasised the centre’s commitment to acquiring the latest medical equipment across various departments, reflecting the Royal Medical Services Directorate’s efforts to stay abreast of advancements in medical technology and healthcare.
