Speaking at a meeting on women mediators, organized by UN-Women, Jaidi, a member of the network, said that Morocco launched its first national action plan on March 23, 2022, pursuant to UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on women, peace and security.
This plan is based on a comprehensive and integrated approach involving all ministerial departments, national institutions, as well as civil society organizations concerned, she noted, adding that the plan is based on three main pillars.
Jaidi cited first the preventive diplomacy, mediation and peacekeeping whose objectives are to strengthen the role of women in preventive diplomacy and mediation and support women’s access to decision-making positions in international and regional organizations while working to ensure full participation of women in peacekeeping operations.
The second pillar, she continued, relates to the promotion of a culture of peace and equality, the prevention of violent extremism and the fight against violence against women. In this regard, the speaker recalled that Morocco has to its credit important organizations in the field of combating violence against women.
Jaidi highlighted the Moroccan Constitution which enshrines the principle of equality and parity, prohibits discrimination based on sex and guarantees the physical and moral integrity of the individual, as well as the partial reform of the penal code which criminalizes sexual harassment and domestic violence with the adoption of the law on trafficking in human beings and the adoption of the law 103-13 on the fight against violence against women which aims at monitoring the perpetrators of violence, prevention of violence, protection of victims and their care.
She noted that the national policy to combat violence against women and girls by 2030 takes into account a new form of violence against women such as electronic violence, while recalling the establishment of the national commission for the care of women victims of violence to ensure communication and national coordination, as well as the implementation of the national observatory of violence against women which brings together the relevant ministerial departments, civil society organizations and research centers.
She also stressed the importance of the national observatory of the image of women in the media, the strengthening of listening centers and support for women victims of violence, communication and awareness campaigns, and social mobilization in the prevention of violence.
