Moroccan Parliamentary Delegation Engages in Strategic Meetings with Latin American and Caribbean Officials in Panama


Panama city: A Moroccan parliamentary delegation held a series of meetings on Friday in Panama with officials from several regional parliamentary bodies, on the sidelines of its participation in the 39th annual General Assembly of the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament (PARLATINO).

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the delegation, which mainly included the member of the bureau of the House of Councilors and its representative to the Latin American and Caribbean Parliament, Abderrahman El Ouafa, met with the president and members of the executive board of PARLATINO, the president of the Mercosur Parliament (PARLASUR), the president of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN), and representatives of several member countries, as per a press release from the House of Councilors.

During his exchange with the president of PARLATINO, Patricio Rolando González, El Ouafa highlighted the significant relations uniting the Kingdom with regional organizations in Latin America and the Caribbean. He noted th
at Morocco being chosen as the first country outside Latin America to host a meeting of PARLATINO’s executive board underscores the strength of these ties. This effort aligns with the Kingdom’s strategic orientation towards promoting South-South cooperation under the guidance of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The president of PARLATINO and the members of its executive board expressed their appreciation for Morocco. They acknowledged the active role of the House of Councilors in supporting the body’s institutional action and its initiatives aimed at fostering connections with Africa and the Arab world, particularly through the South-South Parliamentary Dialogue Forum.

Similarly, the president of PARLASUR, Rodrigo Gamarra, admired Morocco’s development and modernization process, viewing the Kingdom as an exemplary model for countries in the South, especially in South America.

Additionally, the president of PARLACEN, Karla Gutiérrez, commended the Moroccan Parliament’s active involvement within her organizatio
n. She recalled significant milestones of this cooperation, including the visit of PARLACEN’s executive board to Morocco, including the Southern Provinces, as well as the participation of the president of the House of Councilors in PARLACEN’s proceedings in El Salvador. Ms. Gutiérrez reaffirmed the respect for Morocco’s democratic and development model under the leadership of HM King Mohammed VI.

The Parliament of the Kingdom of Morocco is the sole legislative institution at the Arab and African levels to hold the status of observer member and partner with the main parliamentary groupings of Latin America, the Caribbean, and Mexico, notably PARLATINO, the Andean Parliament, PARLACEN, PARLASUR, as well as the Forum of Presiding Officers of Legislative Assemblies of Central America and the Caribbean (FOPREL).
