Moroccan Provinces Brace for Intense Weather Conditions Including Rain, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds


Rabat: Heavy rain, thunderstorms with a chance of hail, strong gusts of wind, and snowfall above 1,800 meters are forecasted from Sunday to Tuesday in several Moroccan provinces, according to the Directorate General of Meteorology (DGM).

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, heavy rain and thunderstorms with a chance of hail, ranging from 40 to 90 mm, are expected from Monday at 3 a.m. to Tuesday at 6 a.m. in the provinces of Tangier-Assilah, M’Diq-Fnideq, Fahs-Anjra, Chefchaouen, Tetouan, Larache, and Ouezzane. This warning was issued in an orange alert bulletin by the DGM.

Additionally, similar weather conditions with rainfall between 30 to 40 mm are forecasted for Monday from 3 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the provinces of Kenitra, Taounate, Sidi Kacem, Taza, Ifrane, Sefrou, Meknes, Fez, El Hajeb, Moulay Ya Scoub, Al Hoceima, and Sidi Slimane.

Strong gusts of wind, ranging between 85 to 100 km/h, are also expected on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. affecting various regions including Jerada, Figuig, Taourirt
, Boulemane, Midelt, Guercif, Taza, Tinghir, Ouarzazate, Fez, Meknes, El Hajeb, Oujda-Angad, Berkane, Nador, Driouch, Sefrou, Moulay Ya Scoub, Ifrane, Zagora, Taroudant, Tata, Tiznit, and Sidi Ifni.

On Monday, from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m., these strong winds will extend to the provinces of Fahs-Anjra, M’Diq-Fnideq, Tetouan, Chefchaouen, Al Hoceima, Taza, Guercif, Nador, Taourirt, Oujda-Angad, Boulemane, and Midelt.

In addition, snowfall measuring between 10 to 20 cm above 1,800 meters is expected on Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the provinces of Boulemane, Guercif, Taza, and Sefrou.
