Moroccan Sahara: Finland Supports Autonomy under Moroccan Sovereignty as Most Feasible Solution


Rabat: Finland has expressed its support for the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the most feasible solution for the Moroccan Sahara. This position was articulated in a Joint Communiqu© adopted in Rabat following a meeting between Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, and Finland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, who is currently on an official visit to Morocco.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Finland reiterated its support for the autonomy plan presented by Morocco. The plan is regarded as a serious and credible contribution to the UN-led political process and a solid foundation for achieving a definitive and mutually acceptable political solution, as stated in the Joint Communique.



The meeting also saw the two ministers welcoming the adoption of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2797 (2025). They reaffirmed their support for the efforts of the UN Secretary General and his Personal Envoy in striving for a just, lasting, and mutually acceptable political resolution to the issue of the Moroccan Sahara.
