Political Dialogue Between Morocco and Finland Progresses Amidst Positive Bilateral Relations

Rabat: Political dialogue between Morocco and Finland is continuing within the framework of the positive dynamic of bilateral relations, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita, indicated on Sunday in Rabat, announcing the upcoming session of the Bilateral Political Dialogue Committee. Speaking at a joint press briefing following his talks with Finnish Minister for Foreign Affairs, Elina Valtonen, Bourita added that this development is part of an exceptionally positive context initiated by his visit to Finland in August 2024, which was marked by the establishment of a roadmap encompassing the development of economic ties, security cooperation, and consular affairs.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita noted that this visit takes place within the framework of the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI, aimed at diversifying the Kingdom of Morocco’s partnerships within the EU and opening up to its various regions. He praised the Finnish Minister’s commitment to developing these relations and strengthening them based on mutual respect, friendship, and tangible, practical cooperation.

He also welcomed the development of bilateral economic relations between the two countries, highlighting that the strong growth in trade between 2024 and 2025 makes Finland “an economic partner with whom we have considerable untapped potential, both in our bilateral relations and on the African continental scale.”

Furthermore, Bourita highlighted bilateral cooperation in the fields of security, counter-terrorism, and the fight against extremism, consular affairs, and the fight against illegal immigration, as well as “other areas open to cooperation, such as digital security, water treatment, renewable energies, etc.”

Regarding the issue of the Moroccan Sahara, Bourita noted that “Finland’s position aligns with the momentum the national cause has gained in recent years under the Impetus of His Majesty King Mohammed VI,” emphasizing that this position is consistent with UN Security Council Resolution 2797 and that Finland is among the countries that have contributed to this dynamic.

Moreover, the Minister affirmed that “Morocco has expressed its support for Finland’s candidacy as a member of the Security Council, given the added value it brings to multilateral work.”
