Abidjan – The Moroccan Sahara Issue has undergone a paradigm shift under HM King Mohammed VI’s impetus, stressed Eddie Guipié, lecturer and researcher in Political Science at the Peleforo Gon Coulibaly University in Korhogo (Côte d’Ivoire).
This shift can be observed in the transition from the management phase to a genuine momentum of change, both internally and externally, the lecturer told MAP.
Through a clear vision, backed by an approach based on initiative, firmness and proactivity, Morocco has achieved major diplomatic breakthroughs on this issue in a complex international context, he said.
According to the academic, the results of the action and continued commitment of Moroccans under the leadership of the Sovereign, as well as the dynamism of Moroccan diplomacy, are to be praised, stressed Guipié.
The proof is the outpouring of support for Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Sahara from major powers such as the United States, France, with which Morocco has historic ties, and Spain, a friend of the
Kingdom, he added.
This frank support has also been widely expressed by Arab and African countries, added Guipié, noting that Morocco is ‘now definitively reconciled with Africa over an issue that was divisive at the time.’
The Kingdom’s Southern Provinces consolidate Morocco’s African depth, he added, stressing that several projects, including the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline project and the Initiative launched by His Majesty the King for the Atlantic African States to promote access for Sahel countries to the Atlantic Ocean, could further boost co-development and shared prosperity in the continent.
