Rabat: Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch affirmed that, in line with the Royal Vision, Morocco is working tirelessly and methodically to build a social State that will bring about concrete and tangible change to the lives of citizens.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, in an interview published Monday by the Spanish newspaper La Raz³n, Akhannouch emphasized that the first four years of the government’s term have been marked by sustained and structured work to achieve the transformation desired by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, by building a social State while pursuing the country’s economic development.
Morocco has undergone an unprecedented transformation in the field of social protection, Akhannouch said, noting that over 4 million families currently benefit from direct social assistance, representing more than 12 million people, including 5 million children and more than 1 million people aged 60 and over.
In the same spirit, he continued, the government, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, has implemented the universal coverage of Compulsory Health Insurance (AMO), which now provides medical coverage to over 88% of Moroccans.
He also pointed out that the first four years of the government’s term were marred by multiple crises, particularly regarding climate-with the most severe drought in 40 years-and economy, due to the return of inflation on a global scale.
Despite these challenges, he argued, the government had managed to preserve macroeconomic stability, bringing inflation down thrice lower compared to four years ago and keeping it below 1% for the past three years.
These economic and social reforms have been backed by sustained social dialogue with the main trade unions, enabling 4.2 million families to benefit from wage increases since the beginning of the mandate, Akhannouch said.
The Head of Government also highlighted the importance given to strengthening the health system, improving the quality of education, and promoting scientific research and innovation, stressing that human capital is a determining factor in the success of the reforms undertaken.
He then spoke of the continued growth in investment, which reflects investor trust in Morocco, recalling the adoption of a new Investment Charter that offers a favorable framework for domestic and foreign investors.
Referring to the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which Morocco will co-host with Spain and Portugal, the Head of Government emphasized that this event represents “an eloquent symbol of the convergence and capacity of our three countries to carry out an ambitious global project.”
Akhannouch described this global event as a catalyst for investment in transport infrastructure, sports facilities, hotel and tourism capacity, digital solutions, and security, adding that it fully illustrates “what we can achieve together.”
