Rabat: Based on specific information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), the Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) on Saturday arrested an individual imbued with the extremist ideology of the “ISIS” terrorist organization, who was operating in the city of M’diq, Northern Morocco.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the 31-year-old suspect is believed to have been involved in planning and preparing to carry out a terrorist plot that would seriously undermine the security of individuals and public order, the BCIJ said in a statement. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts to neutralize the threats posed by terrorist organizations to the Kingdom’s security and the safety of its citizens.
Preliminary findings of the investigation, supported by security monitoring operations, revealed that the suspect had engaged in preparing terrorist projects as part of a “lone-wolf jihad.”
This included acquiring expertise in the manufacture of explosives with a view to carrying out plans aimed at seriously compromising the security of individuals, public order, and vital facilities.
The suspect has been placed in police custody pending the judicial investigation being conducted by the BCIJ under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office in charge of terrorism cases, to uncover the full extent of the extremist activities attributed to him and determine any potential links he may have with terrorist organizations at both the national and international levels.
