Morocco Awarded AFCON 2025 Victory by Default After Appeals Jury Ruling

Ouagadougou: The Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Jury has officially awarded Morocco a victory with a score of three goals to nil in a match marked by controversy and regulatory scrutiny. This decision marks the end of a contentious game, reigniting discussions on refereeing and adherence to sporting rules.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the CAF Appeals Jury’s decision is firmly rooted in the competition’s regulations, particularly Articles 82 and 84. These articles stipulate that any team leaving the pitch without the referee’s authorization is considered to have lost the match and is subsequently eliminated from the tournament.

The decision was made in light of the conduct exhibited by the Senegalese team, which the Appeals Jury determined fell within the boundaries of the regulations, justifying the imposition of a significant sanction in accordance with the established rules.

The Burkinab¨ media outlet highlighted that while the Atlas Lions, Morocco’s national team, have consistently shown their capability to compete at the highest levels of the continental competition, this particular victory is unique due to the circumstances under which it was awarded. This decision leaves an indelible mark on the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.
