Morocco Concedes WAFCON Title to Nigeria After 3-2 Defeat in Final


Casablanca: Morocco’s hope of clinching the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title was dashed as Nigeria secured a 3-2 victory in the final. The match was marked by an intense showdown, with Morocco initially taking the lead with goals from Ghizlane Chebbak in the 13th minute and Sanaa Mssoudy in the 24th minute. However, Nigeria mounted a remarkable comeback with Ijeoma Okoronkwo scoring a penalty in the 64th minute, followed by goals from Folashade Ijamilusi in the 71st minute and Onyi Echegini in the 88th minute to seal their triumph.



According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the competition also saw Ghana clinching third place after a nail-biting encounter against South Africa. The match ended in a 1-1 draw in regular time and was decided by a penalty shootout, where Ghana emerged victorious with a 4-3 win at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.



The tournament showcased the competitive spirit and talent across the participating teams, with Nigeria once again proving their dominance in African women’s football.
