Rabat: Morocco has emerged as a leading regional power thanks to a long-term strategic vision pursued under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, British Member of Parliament Joe Powell said. Morocco has become an indispensable strategic partner for the United Kingdom and a prime destination for international investment, the Labour MP said in an interview with MAP on the occasion of Throne Day, commending the Kingdom’s far-reaching economic, social, and infrastructure transformation.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the British lawmaker highlighted Morocco’s progress across various sectors, including infrastructure development, education, healthcare, expanded housing, and major strategic projects reshaping the country for the long term. Powell emphasized that these achievements underscore the value of governance anchored in strategic continuity.
Reflecting on Morocco’s transformation over the past 27 years, Powell noted the country’s clear long-term direction as a decisive factor in attracting investors. He stated that a clear economic direction allows stakeholders to invest with confidence in a long-term strategy, something Morocco has managed exceptionally well.
Powell also highlighted the strengthening of the strategic partnership between Rabat and London, signed last year under the Labour government. He described it as a milestone in diplomatic relations that span more than eight centuries and expressed satisfaction with the ambitious new strategic partnership designed to deepen cooperation.
The British MP touched upon Morocco’s role in co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup alongside Spain and Portugal, describing it as a catalyst for the Kingdom’s continued development. He mentioned the potential for investment in transportation, stadiums, youth facilities, and infrastructure that will benefit the population long after the tournament.
Beyond infrastructure, Powell said the Moroccan national football team’s recent international achievements reflect a broader national strategy of investing in human capital. He described the team as an inspiring force on the international stage, highlighting the broader impact of sport in creating hope and opportunities for young people.
The Labour MP underscored Morocco’s geostrategic significance, portraying the Kingdom as a vital bridge linking Africa, the Middle East, the Mediterranean, and the Atlantic. He asserted that Morocco plays an essential role as a regional leader and has a vital role on the global stage.
Powell pointed to the growing interest of British businesses in the Moroccan market, suggesting substantial prospects for expanding bilateral economic cooperation. He emphasized the importance of translating the ambitions in the strategic partnership into tangible outcomes and stressed the need to turn those ambitions into concrete results.
