Morocco Established as Leading Hub for High-Value-Added Infrastructure, Says Gov’t Head at GITEX Africa Morocco

Marrakech: Morocco is establishing itself as a leading platform for high-value-added infrastructure, scientific research, and innovation, Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch stated at the 4th GITEX Africa Morocco in Marrakech.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Akhannouch, speaking at the event’s opening ceremony held under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, reaffirmed the Kingdom’s willingness to welcome investors in the digital sector. He emphasized that this commitment is a result of institutional stability driven by the Sovereign’s Vision, making Morocco a welcoming and trustworthy destination for investment.

The government has laid the groundwork for a policy that prioritizes the digital sector in both budgetary and institutional terms. This is supported by a new generation of developers, engineers, and entrepreneurs who view the world through a fresh, ambitious lens. This approach is bolstered by Morocco’s stability and infrastructure.

In this context, Akhannouch highlighted the expansion of fiber-optic networks and the deployment of 5G technologies, reinforced by green energy projects aimed at powering strategic infrastructure. These initiatives align with the Royal High Guidelines, as Morocco adopts a strategic approach focused on mastering artificial intelligence, maintaining technological sovereignty, and ensuring independence in decision-making and innovation.

The Kingdom has moved up 14 spots in the Government AI Readiness Index for 2025, reflecting significant progress in strategies, governance, and institutional capacities. Akhannouch also mentioned initiatives like JAZARI ROOT and AI Made in Morocco, which illustrate a political will to use AI as a strategic tool for national sovereignty, territorial justice, and inclusive development.

Akhannouch emphasized that GITEX Africa was founded on the idea of positioning Africa as a platform to tell its own story. He expressed confidence that after four editions, the challenge has been met. He noted that Africa has the youth, energy, and ambition needed to succeed, along with a growing need for digital tools, targeted funding, creative jobs, and open markets.
