Rabat: Morocco is currently experiencing exceptional sporting momentum, supported by modern infrastructure and commendable international achievements, said on Thursday in Rabat the Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Nawal El Moutawakel.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, El Moutawakel emphasized that Morocco’s sporting momentum is driven by an ambitious and talented youth and is supported by modern infrastructure and notable results on both African and international stages. She highlighted the growing mobilization from various public and private stakeholders at the opening of the International Forum on Sport, organized by the House of Representatives under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.
El Moutawakel affirmed that this momentum is not by chance but is the result of a clear, coherent, and ambitious Royal vision. She recalled the High Guidelines from His Majesty King Mohammed VI’s message to the participants in the National Sports Conference held in Skhirat in 2008, which emphasized sport as a powerful lever for human development, inclusion, and social cohesion.
She also noted the profound structural impact of sport when supported by a clear strategic vision and strong institutions. The Olympic movement is founded on universal values of peace, respect, solidarity, and excellence, which serve as benchmarks for countries seeking to make sport a genuine lever for sustainable development.
El Moutawakel pointed out that Morocco adheres to this vision, with efforts appreciated by the International Olympic Committee, particularly in training young talents, hosting major sporting events, promoting women’s sport, modernizing infrastructure, and supporting elite athletes.
She emphasized Morocco’s significant assets and promising human capital, highlighting the responsibility to structure, support, and enhance these assets to make sport a lever for human development and social cohesion, and a tool for the Kingdom’s influence at both continental and international levels.
The Forum, held under the theme “Towards a national strategy for the promotion of sport,” is part of the work of the thematic group tasked with evaluating the National Sports Strategy 2008-2020. It serves as a space for dialogue and a platform for collective reflection on key levers for developing national sports policies capable of establishing sport as a pillar of human development and socio-economic inclusion.
