Rabat: Moroccan Police and Customs on the El Guerguerat border post, south of Dakhla, have foiled an international drug smuggling attempt, seizing 183 kilograms and 200 grams of cocaine, according to a security source. The border control operation, assisted by sniffer dogs, uncovered the drug stash carefully concealed in the chassis cavities of an international freight truck with Moroccan license plates, arriving from a sub-Saharan African country. The 34-year-old truck driver was arrested, the source confirmed.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, a preliminary investigation is underway, under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor, to figure out the details of the case, track down the individuals involved, and uncover the full scope of these criminal activities, both in Morocco and internationally.
This joint operation is part of the intense and ongoing efforts by various security services at the El Guerguerat border post to combat international drug and psychotropic trafficking, as well as to monitor and fight all forms of transnational crime.
