Tangier: Joint inspection operations carried out by the National Security services and Customs at the Tangier Med Port resulted in foiling an attempt to traffic 8 tonnes and 196 kilograms of cannabis resin aboard an international freight truck.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this security operation led to the detection of a shipment of narcotics carefully packed in plastic bars and transported by an international freight truck registered in Morocco, which was bound, via a maritime crossing, for a European port. The General Directorate of National Security reported the seizure of 8 tonnes and 196 kilograms of cannabis resin in slabs.
The truck driver, a 50-year-old Moroccan national, has been placed under judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecutor. This move aims to clarify the circumstances of the case and identify all national and international ramifications of this criminal activity.
This operation forms part of the intensive efforts deployed by the various security services at border crossing points to combat international drug and psychotropic trafficking networks, the source added.
