Marrakech – The Kingdom of Morocco holds a “strategic position” and fulfils an “essential mission” in preserving peace and security in the Middle East and Africa, Executive Director of the Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP) Robert Satloff said on Saturday in Marrakech, as he leads a large delegation from the US think tank on a visit to Morocco.

“We welcome Morocco’s strong, positive and moderate position on the situation in the Middle East and the Kingdom’s contribution to Africa”, Satloff told the press at a reception held by Secretary General of the Council of Jewish Communities in Morocco Serge Berdugo, in honour of WINEP delegation members.

“Morocco, which holds a strategic position in the region, stands as the voice of moderation and wisdom”, the US Think Tank executive director argued, highlighting ‘the importance of Morocco and its role in international relations to advance peace and security throughout the region’.

Satloff also expressed his pleasure to lead a large 30-member WINEP d
elegation in order to highlight the importance of relations between Morocco and the United States and the importance the Institute places on strategic relations between the two countries.

“Our aim is to reassert the solidity of relations between Morocco and the United States”, he noted, adding that the American delegation would be visiting several Moroccan cities, including Dakhla, to discover the various political, cultural and human aspects of the Kingdom.

For his part, Berdugo expressed his delight at hosting this ceremony in honour of the WINEP delegation, who started their trip in Marrakech before heading to Casablanca, Dakhla and Rabat.

“This visit is part of efforts to strengthen ties between Morocco and the United States and supports the progress made by the Kingdom in defending its national cause”, Berdugo noted.

The ceremony was attended by Wali of the Marrakech-Safi region, governor of Marrakech prefecture Farid Chourak, and several other figures.
