New York:Morocco’s involvement in the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly has bolstered international support for its claim over the Sahara, as described by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates, Nasser Bourita.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, Bourita highlighted that numerous countries have now backed the Moroccanness of the Sahara and Morocco’s proposed autonomy plan. This growing support, he indicated, suggests progress towards a resolution and is significant ahead of forthcoming Security Council meetings.

Bourita noted several recent developments, including Peru’s decision to endorse Morocco’s sovereignty over the Sahara and open a consulate in Dakhla, as well as Bolivia’s reaffirmation of its position and intent to establish a trade office in the Southern Provinces. Chile has also recognized Morocco’s sovereignty and is committed to strengthening bilateral relations, while Panama, currently a non-permanent member of the Security Council, has reiterated its support.

Additionally, Mauritius and Jamaica have shifted their stance, now viewing autonomy under Moroccan rule as the most viable solution. Armenia has expressed similar support, with the Armenian Council of Ministers emphasizing the importance of Morocco’s Sahara Initiative in a letter to King Mohammed VI.
