Morocco Mobilizes Resources to Aid Citizens During Cold Wave

Rabat: On the High Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, may God assist Him, the services of the Ministry of the Interior, along with relevant ministries and stakeholders, have mobilized to take urgent measures to support citizens facing a cold wave in several regions of the Kingdom.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, walis and governors of the affected regions have been urged to monitor the situation, coordinate interventions, and take preventive measures to ease the burden on the population, in line with the Royal Instructions. The Ministry of the Interior has established a command and vigilance center and regional monitoring committees as part of the national plan for the winter season 2024-2025. This plan includes significant updates, such as expanding targeted areas by adding 185 new villages, with special attention to populations affected by recent earthquakes and floods.

The plan targets approximately 872,778 people across 2,014 villages in 241 territorial communes within 28 provinces and prefectures. The Ministry, in coordination with relevant sectors, has enhanced readiness for intervention, including monitoring the field situation, ensuring regular supply of essential goods, and organizing distribution of food aid, blankets, and firewood.

Efforts also focus on providing immediate assistance to people in critical situations, maintaining road and telephone connectivity, and supplying fodder for livestock in affected areas. The Ministry of the Interior reaffirms its commitment to alleviating the population’s burden and ensuring citizen safety by deploying necessary resources and means.
