Morocco Permits International License Plate Format for Domestic Vehicles

Rabat: Morocco has announced a significant change in its vehicle registration policy, allowing the use of an international license plate format for domestic road use. The decision was confirmed by the Ministry through a press release issued on Thursday.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, this change pertains to the plates defined in Annex No. 13 of the decree concerning vehicle and trailer registration. The Ministry’s announcement follows a previous notification issued on June 21, which reminded citizens planning to travel abroad with their vehicles to comply with Article 28 of Order No. 2711.10. This order, dated September 29, 2010, and amended thereafter, governs vehicle registration in Morocco.

The Ministry has acknowledged growing concerns over the inconsistencies between the license plate formats required for international travel and those used within the country. The new policy aims to streamline mobility for Moroccan drivers, address their needs, and prevent potential penalties, particularly in European countries where stricter vehicle registration standards are in place.
