Rabat: AFCON 2025 is set to be a landmark event for Morocco, as the country initiates a comprehensive campaign titled ‘Morocco, Land of Football.’ Fouzi Lekjaa, during the official launch of the campaign, emphasized that the tournament will not only be a sporting event but also a cultural celebration, with the nation uniting behind King Mohammed VI. The initiative aims to showcase Morocco’s rich cultural tapestry and its capability to host global-scale events.
According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the campaign highlights Morocco’s historical role in promoting cultural and historical diversity through football. Lekjaa announced that approximately 15,000 volunteers, including many of African origin, will be engaged during the tournament, underscoring the enthusiasm AFCON Morocco 2025 is expected to generate.
The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT), led by Director General Achraf Fayda, is playing a crucial role in promoting Morocco as a premier football destination. Fayda detailed the strategic agreeme
nt between the ONMT and the Moroccan Royal Football Federation (FRMF), which aims to align sport and tourism to position Morocco as a leading tourist and sports hub through AFCON 2025.
Fayda also discussed various promotional activities, including B2B Africa workshops and roadshows in European capitals, to enhance Morocco’s image as an attractive destination. Additionally, efforts are being made to reinforce air connections and partner with international players, alongside engaging influencers and content creators from the 24 participating countries, to spotlight Morocco’s tourism infrastructure.
FIFA Secretary General Mattias Grafström praised Morocco as a passionate football nation and a land of champions, highlighting its history as a hospitable host for African national teams. Grafström lauded the initiative’s potential to unite tourism and football, recognizing the inspiration both sectors provide globally.
