Morocco, The Netherlands Agree to Strengthen Cooperation in Maritime Transport

London: Morocco and The Netherlands have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in maritime transport. The MoU was signed by Morocco’s Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdessamad Kayouh, and Dutch Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management, Robert Tieman, during the 34th Session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Assembly in London.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the agreement focuses on establishing mutual recognition of seafarers’ certificates of competency, aligning with the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW). During the signing, Dutch Minister Tieman remarked that the MoU would enable both countries to recognize seafarers’ certificates on Dutch and Moroccan vessels, thereby easing the recruitment of skilled personnel in the maritime industry. Tieman emphasized the significance of this agreement, especially amidst global developments that necessitate increased cooperation.

Morocco’s Minister Kayouh expressed that the memorandum opens avenues for deeper cooperation with The Netherlands, a nation well-versed in maritime affairs, and signals a significant step forward in their bilateral maritime relationship.
