Rabat: Morocco will host on Wednesday in Rabat the 2nd Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in a Francophone Environment. The conference will be co-chaired by Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccan Expatriates Nasser Bourita and French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Jean-No«l Barrot.

According to Agence Marocaine De Presse, the event is organized in partnership with the UN and the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF) and will bring together 62 delegations, including 26 represented at ministerial level. Senior UN and OIF officials, regional organizations, and civilian and military experts involved in peacekeeping operations will also be in attendance.

The conference is being held amid evolving challenges facing UN peacekeeping missions and ongoing reforms related to peacekeeping and peacebuilding architecture. It aims to provide Francophone countries with an additional platform to develop a shared understanding of current peacekeeping issues.

Hosting this international conference in Morocco reflects recognition of the Kingdom’s longstanding and pioneering contribution to UN peacekeeping operations worldwide. It also highlights the credibility and trust Morocco enjoys within international bodies as a committed and unifying actor in major multilateral issues.

This second edition follows the first Ministerial Conference on Peacekeeping in a Francophone Environment held in Paris in 2016.
